Huang Shan Bao Zhong – Fresh, Buttery Artisan Bao Zhong Oolong

Made in small artisan batches, Huang Shan Bao Zhong is the highest grade in its category. Bao Zhong (also spelled Pouchong) is a lightly oxidized, twisted-leaf oolong prized for its fresh, floral character, and this artisan version showcases the style at its very best.

Bao Zhong is processed with minimal handling — from hand-picking to rolling to drying, the leaves are touched as little as possible to preserve the freshest possible taste. This careful approach lets the leaves keep their vibrant jade color and delicate aroma, resulting in a tea that sits beautifully between green tea and oolong.

Tasting Notes

  • Dry leaf: vibrant jade, gently twisted leaves
  • First impression: incredible freshness
  • Flavor: creamy and buttery with a long, sweet undertone
  • Accents: mild vegetal and mineral notes
  • Finish: smooth and silky

DEC 2024 review... very smooth oolong, has a subtle flowery taste. Nice to mix w/ other oolongs. Although, after 2 reseeps, the flavor was already fading. Did it at 190, 3min.

Unlike other Formosa oolongs, this one is an average quality tea, not great aroma and taste.

I didn't expect this quality! Then I smelled the water from the first rinse and smelled springtime. The scent of fresh fruit like pears and kiwi. The soup is thick and sweet and coats the tongue and teeth with a lasting sensation of lilacs and sweet cream. A very fine tea that will please anyone who enjoys lightly fermented Taiwan oolongs.
