Fukujyu Sencha – Light, Sweet & Oceanic Japanese Sencha

Sencha is Japan's most popular tea — a steamed green tea that's typically bright, grassy, fresh and lightly astringent. Fukujyu Sencha is considered one of the finest exported senchas, known for its refreshingly sweet, very light grassy taste. Its bright green leaves are harvested only from the first and second flushes, when the tea is at its most flavorful.

Fukujyu Sencha is characteristically light, with very little grassiness. It's sweet and only slightly astringent, but what truly sets it apart are its gentle oceanic notes — savory, seaweed-like, nori-inspired flavors that are soft and complex, adding wonderful depth to the cup.

Tasting Notes

  • Liquor: bright, fresh green
  • Aroma: light, sweet and fresh

How to Enjoy

Enjoy it plain in a kyusu or small teapot and re-steep the leaves for additional cups. It pairs perfectly with sushi, sashimi, miso soup and rice dishes, and makes a crisp, refreshing iced green tea.

This is delicious. I am very impressed with this Japanese sencha. I brewed 6.1g in 550ml of filtered water at 61c for 2.5 minutes and it made a superbly smooth and rich cup of tea. It had more than enough going on to keep the experience interesting for two full steepings.

Will gladly purchase again and I can see this easily sliding into my rotation.

ps this is hardly a mouthful of sea water. this is a green tea.

Perfect everyday tea..slight sweetness and mildly astringent well balanced but as others have said the oceanic /nori like attributes are what sets it apart which is the reason I reorded a larger size its a great tea for morning or evening meals that won't break that bank

The leaves are pretty and green, and have a sweet aroma. I steeped 1 ½ tsp in 8 oz. hot water (about 175 F). To the nose, it is fresh, grassy and very oceanic. To the taste, it is vibrant, sweet, smooth, grassy, slightly astringent and very oceanic. Indeed, “its oceanic notes are what sets it apart”. The sweet oceanic aftertaste lingers in the mouth until the next sip. The 2nd infusion was less fragrant, less vibrant and less complex, but still very smooth, and very good.
This is a great quality Sencha. Very tasty and satisfying.

This tea brews to a lovely golden-green colour, and grassy aroma. Mellow and well balanced on the first brew, it gets more astringent/ less grassy but just as enjoyable on a second (longer) infusion. It's my 'go to' tea for early mornings that require sharp focus and sharper mind.
